Clinical Assessment & Targeted Treatment

Targeted therapy designed to reduce pain, improve mobility, and support long-term functional health

Home/Services/Remedial Massage

Our Remedial Massage treatments focus on assessing the underlying causes of your discomfort and providing targeted, evidence-informed techniques to reduce pain, improve mobility, and support long-term functional health. Each session is tailored to your individual presentation, combining clinical reasoning with hands-on treatment to help you move and feel better.

What is a Remedial Massage?

A remedial session begins with a clinical assessment to understand the source of your pain or restriction. Your therapist will look at movement patterns, muscular tension, and contributing factors before planning a treatment that addresses both symptoms and underlying causes.

Unlike a relaxation massage, remedial work is goal-oriented and designed to support recovery from pain, injury, or functional limitations.

What to expect during your initial session

Clinical Assessment

Your therapist begins with movement testing, postural observations, and questions about your symptoms. This identifies the structures involved and guides your treatment plan.

Treatment Planning

Based on your assessment, your therapist outlines the areas of focus and discusses the most appropriate techniques for your presentation. You're welcome to ask questions at any time.

Targeted Hands-On Work

Your treatment may include deeper soft tissue work, myofascial techniques, joint mobilisation, or other targeted approaches. Pressure is always adjusted to your comfort level.

Conditions remedial massage can help manage

Remedial massage may assist with:

  • Neck and shoulder tightness
  • Lower back pain
  • Headaches and tension-related discomfort
  • Postural strain from work or daily activities
  • Sports-related tightness or overuse
  • General muscular pain or restricted movement
  • Recovery from non-acute injuries

If your presentation requires referral to another health professional, your therapist will discuss this with you.

Techniques we may use during your treatment

Performance-focused soft tissue work integrated into your remedial session to enhance mobility, speed recovery, and prevent injuries. Tailored for active bodies and everyday movement alike.
A precise technique that targets trigger points in muscles to release tension, reduce pain, and restore range of motion. When combined with remedial massage, it offers fast, effective relief for injuries, tension, and everyday discomfort.
Cupping uses gentle negative pressure to lift and decompress the soft tissues, helping improve circulation, reduce muscular tightness, and support myofascial mobility. Integrated into your session only when clinically appropriate and with your consent.
Applied when needed to support movement, reduce strain, or assist with recovery between sessions. Always discussed with you before application.
MLD uses light, rhythmic techniques to encourage lymphatic flow, ease feelings of swelling or heaviness, and support overall tissue comfort. Integrated into your remedial session when helpful or requested, this gentle approach promotes a calm, restorative response in the body.

Does remedial massage need to be painful?

Not at all. While remedial work can involve deeper pressure, your therapist will always work within your comfort level. Discomfort should never feel sharp or overwhelming, and you are encouraged to communicate at any time so the pressure can be adjusted.

Who provides your remedial massage?

Your session is provided by a qualified remedial therapist trained in assessment, clinical reasoning, and evidence-informed treatment planning. Our approach is supportive, respectful, and centred on helping you move with greater ease and confidence.
